Microsoft Updates Skype Android App - Google Drive

Microsoft Updates Skype Android App

Microsoft updated their popular Skype app on the Android operating system a couple days ago in a release worth downloading. The new Skype app features a Microsoft sign-in prompt, a more polished user interface, and better call quality thanks to an improved audio codec being utilized (had been incorporated into its iOS apps a couple years ago). Skype permits free Skype-to-Skype calling, free video calls, and cheap outbound calling to non-Skype phones, e.g., landlines.

How integrating Google Voice will benefit you and your clients--Pinni Bohm, Esq.

Google provides many free services that law firms should consider integrating into their systems, but Google Voice is likely the most useful. Google Voice assigns a unique local phone number to all user accounts with automatic call forwarding to all your phone numbers simultaneously, an excellent visual voicemail system accessible anywhere, automatic transcription of those voicemails delivered to your email inbox, a simple texting system that awards your firm the ability to accept client texts, free calls in the U.S. and Canada, cheap calling rates outside the U.S., automatic screening of all unknown calls, and much more. With a Google Voice account in place, your secretary can answer texts from the office computer, you could receive office calls when out of state, and you could check your firm voicemails from your smartphone Google Voice application.

For more information on the advantages Google Voice can offer you, check out this superb Lifehacker article. While it might be a little dated, e.g., there is now a Google Voice iPhone app, its advice is impeccable. You may also check out http://www.businessinsider.com/top-10-tips-and-tweaks-for-using-google-voice-2011-3?op=1 for more advanced tips.

If you need assistance in setting up your Google Voice account, Google's own help pages are usually your best bet:

Lastly, for a walkthrough in setting up Google Voice on your iPhone or Android smartphone, PCWorld has an informative article here: http://www.pcworld.com/article/242719/how_to_use_google_voice_on_your_iphone_or_android_smartphone.html.

The Most Useful Apps You've Probably Forgotten

Technology moves fast. So fast, in fact, that great apps often get left in the dust if they don't come out of the gates full-featured and ready for primetime. With that in mind, here are a few apps that all but disappeared from our radar, but still offer a great feature-set.

Nowadays, there's thousands of apps that do thousands of things. Here's Lifehacker's ode to some of the cooler apps  they forgot existed, even though you might still use them every day.

Installation was easy enough; but be warned that this is a Beta and it requires that you install AdobeAir.  If you object to Adobe, (OMG they are arrogant, changing settings and interrupting), then take a pass. I am waiting for customer support to get back to me on how to create my buddy list.  The instructions disappeared and the AddBuddy window locked up.  YMMV.
