In 2006, weeks after the department closed Stony Brook's pediatric cardiac surgery program because it lacked a full-time surgeon, four families filed complaints with the Health Department.. . .
But in August 2007, the department notified the families it had closed the cases with no findings against Stony Brook.

The Health Department agreed in July to re-examine the complaints. However, [the families] learned in August that the department had decided "the original investigation of your complaint was thorough and complete and no deficiencies were identified."
