Law & Reorder Event

You are invited to the next Law & Reorder event on Thursday, January 24, 2013, from 12:15 - 2 p.m. at Debevoise & Plimpton LLP, 919 Third Avenue (between 2nd and 3rd Avenues on 55th Street), 35th floor conference area, New York, NY. Please join us as we discuss the Best Law Firms for Women: 2012 Findings, Trends & Best Practices. During this program, Working Mother and Flex-Time Lawyers will release the data and trends identified in conducting the 2012 national survey of work/life balance and women issues at law firms. These findings will be highlighted in light of prior years' statistics to track the benchmarking changes in the profession since the Best Law Firms for Women initiative began in 2007. Attendees will hear from winning law firm representatives about best practices and innovations they have in place to help retain and promote female talent. Attendees will leave the program empowered with new data and ideas to implement improvements at their law firms and redefine what makes a best law firm for women.

Comedians at Law

The Comedians at Law (www.comediansatlaw.com) know all about being lawyers in transition. These four attorneys with backgrounds in government, politics, and private practice transitioned from their legal careers to careers in comedy. They banded together and now travel the country entertaining law schools, bar associations, law firms and comedy club audiences. Members of Comedians at Law have appeared on CBS, The Chatter With Robin Quivers, The Late Late Show with Craig Ferguson, Sirius/XM's "Raw Dog" Comedy, Fox and CNN.

Past guests include such interesting figures as sports super-agent, Leigh Steinberg, who is the real-life model for the film character Jerry Maguire. In-House Position

Bliss Lawyers is pleased to announce a full-time, five month in-house position for a fund lawyer with 5-10 years of experience to work at a NYC financial services firm. The temporary position, covering for a lawyer out on maternity leave, will begin in March. The work will involve structuring co-investment vehicles and carry plans. Experience with employee plans is a plus. The pay is competitive, with benefits.

Job requirements and preferences include:
A law degree from an accredited law school and active New York Bar membership in good standing;
A fund lawyer with at least 5 - 10 years of experience;
Experience structuring co-investment vehicles and carry plans;

Seeking NYC Attorney - Compliance

We are delighted to announce a full-time, permanent position with a New York City insurance company seeking an attorney or compliance professional to lead the company's Closing and Client Services team, performing the necessary functions for the Company's acquisition closing and subsequent tracking and servicing. The salary is competitive, with benefits.

Responsibilities Include:
Leading the Closing & Client Services team.
Managing the team procedures efficiently and refining them as needed to enable scalability and growth.
Resolving legal, compliance and business issues while working with multidisciplinary team members to attain company goals.
Assisting in the timely preparation and supervision of documentation related to the closing of policy purchases.
Communicating and building relationships with insurance companies, policy brokers, verification agents, regulatory authorities and others in relation to closing and client services functions.
Supervision of the efficient use of workflow data system.

Position Scope:

Contract Issuance and Review
Manage team of Closing Associates to review and issue closing documents for certain areas of the company's transactions.
Navigate the states' regulatory requirements as well as client purchasing criteria and parameters.
Review closing packages ensuring due diligence compliance (i.e., anti-fraud checks and insurable interest verification).
Interact with institutional investor client liaisons to address issues of compliance and any deficiency approvals.

Funding Process
Responsible for managing the company interaction with Escrow and Verification Agents to enable efficient transfer of policy ownership.
Supervise the funding activities related to policy closing and disbursements to the applicable parties.

Manage the maintenance and tracking of insureds per requirements set forth in the company's agreements with its institutional investor clients.
Oversee acquisition of policy statements and/or illustrations and supervise the premium optimization of policies.

Support the Legal Department in implementing a compliance program including the drafting, updating and review of closing documents in conformity with applicable state laws.

Desired Skills & Experience
Five years of legal and/or compliance background.
Ability to review and analyze contracts, regulations and complex legal issues.
Ability to apply business judgment in the closing process, interfacing with the various business and transactional functions.
J.D. preferred but not required.
Experience in insurance law preferred.
